About the design
Grace Sweater is designed with inspiration from Marianne Isager’s Majs Sweater from the 1980s and 90s. The beautiful graphic expression sparked my curiosity - how can I create a new and modern design inspired by it?
During the design process, I quite quickly worked my way toward an expression that holds both calm and movement. After many experiments, sketches, and even more swatches. I finally found the signature graphic and linear pattern. The vertical lines run along like a painterly echo, creating a rhythmic calmness with a timeless strength.
The fit is slightly oversized and modern in its expression, making it easy to style across both wardrobe and season.
Grace Sweater is a tribute to modern Nordic knitwear - a design that carries its history with grace from past to present.
I am proud to be part of this the Isager Archives 2 collection. Working on Grace Sweater has been both educational, fun and inspiring. I hope other knitters will experience the same joy, calm and curiosity in the process as I did.
Construction
First, stitches are cast on for the right shoulder of the back piece, which is worked with as a short section with increases. The same is done for the left shoulder. Then the two shoulder sections are joined by casting on the remaining stitches between them, and from there the back is knitted down to the given length. Next, stitches are picked up for the right and left front, which are worked separately with increases along the neckline, after which they are joined at the center front and knitted down to the given length. When front and back are joined, the body is worked in the round until the ribbing is knitted as the final border. Finally, the sleeves are knitted separately, as well as the neckline.
The sweater is completely seamless.
